Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon · Andheri West, Mumbai

Growing bones need a specialist of their own

Children are not small adults — their bones grow, remodel and respond to treatment in ways adult orthopaedics does not cover. Dr. Atul Bhaskar has spent 33+ years caring exclusively for children's bones and joints: from a newborn's hip screening to a teenager's sports injury.

What we treat

Conditions by age & stage

Every condition below has a typical window when treatment is simplest and most effective. If you recognise something, an early opinion costs little — and often saves a great deal.

BIRTH – 6 MO

Hip Dysplasia (DDH)

Screening and harness treatment for unstable or dislocated infant hips — simplest when caught in the first months.

BIRTH – 2 WK

Clubfoot (CTEV)

Gentle Ponseti casting from the first weeks of life, plus care for relapsed and previously treated feet.

0 – 12 MO

Torticollis

Head tilt from a tight neck muscle — most babies recover fully with guided stretching started early.

2 – 10 YRS

Knock Knees & Bow Legs

Distinguishing normal growth from conditions needing guided-growth (8-plate) correction.

3 – 10 YRS

Flat Feet

Most need only reassurance; stiff or painful feet get a full evaluation for underlying causes.

ALL AGES

Cerebral Palsy Care

Botulinum toxin, hip surveillance and single-event multi-level surgery to protect mobility.

ALL AGES

Fractures & Injuries

Growth-plate-aware fracture care — because children's fractures follow their own rules.

5 – 15 YRS

Bone Cysts

Benign cysts found after minor fractures — observation to minimally invasive treatment.

10 – 16 YRS

Hip Slip (SCFE)

A limping teenager with knee or thigh pain is a hip emergency until proven otherwise.

ALL AGES

Limb Deformity & Rare Conditions

Osteogenesis imperfecta, congenital pseudarthrosis, limb length difference and complex correction.

Plan a visit

Three simple steps

1

Message us on WhatsApp

Share your child's age and concern — a photo or previous X-ray helps. We'll confirm a slot in the evening OPD.

2

Bring what you have

Any previous reports, X-rays or prescriptions. No referral is needed — parents can book directly.

3

Leave with a clear plan

A diagnosis explained in plain language, what to do next — and just as often, reassurance that nothing needs to be done.

Common questions

Before your first visit

Why see a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon rather than a general orthopaedic surgeon?

Children's bones have growth plates, remodel over time, and develop conditions adults never get. Treatment decisions — when to operate, when to simply observe — depend on understanding growth. A paediatric specialist trains specifically in this, which often means less treatment, not more.

Do I need a referral from our paediatrician?

No — parents can book directly. If your paediatrician has already seen your child, bring their notes; it helps us build on what has been done.

What should we bring to the first consultation?

Any previous X-rays, reports and prescriptions, plus a short video of your child walking or running if the concern is about gait — a 20-second phone video taken at home is often more informative than the clinic corridor.

My child's legs / feet look unusual but nothing hurts. Should we still come?

Yes, and this is exactly the right time. Many childhood conditions are painless in their treatable window — hip dysplasia, early knock-knee deformity, mild scoliosis. A single consultation either catches something early or gives you documented reassurance.

Does every problem end in surgery?

Quite the opposite — the majority of children we see need observation, bracing, physiotherapy or simply reassurance. Surgery is recommended only when the evidence and the child's specific situation clearly favour it, and the reasoning is always explained.

Do you treat children who were operated on elsewhere?

Yes. Relapsed clubfoot, recurrent deformity and revision situations are a regular part of the practice. Bring all previous operative notes and imaging so the earlier treatment can be properly understood.

Worried about your child's walk, posture or an injury?

Message the clinic on WhatsApp with your concern — you'll get a consultation slot, not a call-centre script.
